CloseLot Description

A Piece of Whisky History
Glenfiddich is selling one of its rarest-ever whiskies, the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve, in aid of charity Walking With The Wounded.
The 55 year old single malt Scotch whisky honours Janet Sheed Roberts, the granddaughter of William Grant - founder of the Glenfiddich distillery - who celebrated her 110th birthday in August 2011; she is the oldest living person in Scotland.
Only 11 bottles of the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve will ever be released to the public, one to celebrate each decade of her life. Each bottle is hand-numbered: this is bottle No. 2, bottle No.1 having sold at auction last year for £46,850, breaking a world record for the most expensive single malt Scotch whisky sold at auction.
Giving Lots has the pleasure of being able to display this magnificent whisky on its site and of offering you a double opportunity:
- - to help Walking With The Wounded and their pioneering work and;
- - to help Glenfiddich beat bottle No. 1's record, to make this the world's most expensive bottle of single malt whisky ever sold at auction.
This extraordinary whisky comes in stunning packaging, inspired by some of Janet Roberts’ favourite personal items and intricately designed by some of the country’s finest craftspeople:
· Brodie Nairn of Glasstorm carefully created the hand-blown bottle
· Fattorini’s hand pressed the bottle stopper with Janet Roberts’ initials, monogrammed in gold on an aquamarine Cloissonné medallion
· Inspired by Janet Roberts’ leather travel trunk, the hand-blown bottle is encased in a luxurious leather box fabricated by Geoffrey Parker Games, complete with a Scottish deer horn toggle and lines with a bespoke silk
A hand-made limited edition original print, painted exclusively for this special anniversary by Alison Watt OBE, is also included with the bottle. In 2006, Alison was appointed Associate Artist to The National Gallery and she also participated in Glenfiddich’s Artists in Residence programme.
This must be one of the most lovingly made and presented whiskies that you will have the chance to buy - we are sure you will agree.
Charity Record Breaker?
To help us raise as much money as we can for Walking with the Wounded, you can get the bidding started online, prior to the live charity auction, where the bidding will continue. The top online bids will be carried through to the live auction and the top online bidders will be contacted and asked if they wish to attend the event, or continue bidding by submitting maximum or telephone bids at the live auction.
Anyone attending the auction will be able to meet and talk to Walking with the Wounded's Everest team.
Online bidding ends at midday 9th February 2012.
The live auction will take place at 6.30pm on Friday 10th February at The Honourable Artillery Company, and will be led by senior Christie's auctioneer James Bruce-Gardyne. Entrance to the live auction at the Honourable Artillery Company is by invitation only and anyone who is interested in attending should apply for their place by email at glenfiddich@wwtw.org.uk or by calling 020 7632 4827.
All proceeds from the auction sale will go to Walking With The Wounded, a charity dedicated to the re-training and re-education of our servicemen and women. Glenfiddich is the main sponsor of the charity's expedition to Everest this April - a fundraising challenge to put five wounded servicemen on top of the world.
