Maya Wildevuur’s entry is named after Suda the painting elephant. The artist once saw the elephant at work while on a trip to Thailand. Her elephant is a lovely sky blue with plenty of colourful, playful and cheerful accents, such as the characteristic red poppies for which her work is so admired.

De door Maya Wildevuur beschilderde olifant, Suda, is geïnspireerd door en vernoemd naar een schilderende olifant die zij in Thailand aan het werk heeft gezien. This beautiful elephant named Concrete Jungle was created by Lars Tuziasm.
"The “Concrete Jungle Elephant” is based on a series that I’m currently working on called the “Concrete Jungle”. At first glance, it appears to be just a colourful elephant. And if people like it for that reason then of course that makes me feel good, but the idea behind it has a social undertone. You see an abstract city, which only consists of square windows. It’s built up by adding layer upon layer and is something that should be beautiful, but at the same time, is it something that’s worth building over everything else? Elephant Parade invokes a similar feeling in me. I can imagine the initial reaction for most people is “Gee, aren’t all these colourful elephants nice!”. Once they hear the idea behind it, it can be a positive way to encourage reflection in people. Whoever buys my miniature is taking home a true work of art and also ensuring that the plight of the Asian elephant gets the attention it deserves. That’s a really nice thought."

"De 'Concrete Jungle Elephant' is gebaseerd op een serie waar ik momenteel aan werk genaamd 'Concrete Jungle'. In eerste oogopslag is het gewoon een kleurrijke olifant. Als mensen het mooi vinden geeft me dat natuurlijk fijn gevoel, maar het idee erachter heeft tegelijkertijd een maatschappelijke ondertoon. Je kijkt naar een geabstraheerde stad, die enkel nog uit vierkante ramen bestaat. Laag over laag opgebouwd, iets wat mooi moet zijn, maar is het tegelijkertijd wel zo mooi dat we bezig zijn om alles vol te bouwen? De Elephant Parade roept een dergelijk gevoel bij me op. Ik kan me voorstellen dat een eerste idee bij mensen kan zijn: “Goh, wat leuk die kleurige olifantjes”, als ze vervolgens meer horen over het idee erachter, kan dit ze op een positieve manier aansporen tot nadenken. Met mijn miniatuur olifant haalt iemand een echt kunstwerkje in huis en zorgt er bovendien voor dat de situatie van de Aziatische olifant meer aandacht krijgt. Ik vind dit een hele mooie gedachte."
