WWF: Why we're here

We're creating solutions to the most serious conservation challenges facing the planet, helping people and nature thrive.

We're best known as the world's leading conservation organisation, helping safeguard endangered species. But there's more to our work than many people realise. The money we receive is used in three vital and interconnected ways:

1. Safeguarding the natural world
We don't just protect wildlife. We also protect the habitats they live in, vital for the livelihoods of many vulnerable people. These include:
• forests, crucial for regulating the world's climate
• oceans and their precious fish stocks
• rivers and lakes, which provide the fresh water so many lives depend on.

2. Tackling climate change
Climate change affects all the work we do. We help people and wildlife adapt to the already changing climate. And campaign for a strong, fair, binding international agreement that prevents dangerous climate change.

3. Changing how we live
We encourage everyone to reduce their use of natural resources and lessen their impact, or ‘footprint', on the natural world.

How we work
• We work with businesses - encouraging sustainable development and long-term benefits over short-term gains.
• We work with politicians - to introduce and strengthen laws protecting environments, people and wildlife.
• We work with communities - helping people to create the changes that will make sustainability happen.

You may have seen the Elephant Parade in London and like to know that Number 109, "Russell", is being sold in aid of WWF.   Russell is located in Green Park.  To have a look at it online, or to place a bid, please CLICK HERE.
